SMART Launches New Version of SMART Board Software for Mac OS X
Latest software capabilities give Mac computer users the most feature-rich interactive whiteboard
Calgary, AB – June 9, 2004 – SMART Technologies Inc. announces the release of SMART Board™ 8.1.2 software for Mac OS® X operating system software. Version 8.1.2 adds two new features that Macintosh® computer users have requested for their SMART Board interactive whiteboards and Sympodium™ interactive lecterns: handwriting recognition and an intuitive drag-and-drop capability. The handwriting recognition feature allows users to write by hand on the SMART Board interactive whiteboard and then convert it to text. The drag-and-drop feature allows users to move text or graphics from websites, word processors or Microsoft Office applications into Notebook™ software, the application at the heart of every version of SMART Board software.
SMART Board software was the first software of its kind to offer cross-platform compatibility with Mac OS operating system software and Windows®, UNIX® and Linux® operating systems. SMART’s commitment to Mac computer users continues with this latest version. Notebook whiteboarding software features an XML-based, cross-platform file format (.XBK), which means Notebook files created on one operating system can be accessed on another. This flexibility is especially useful to educators who use both Macintosh and Windows-based computers. SMART Board software also continues to offer a consistent interface between the two platforms. More than 1,500 new templates and clip-art images are also now available.

SMART Board 8.1.2 software for Mac OS X operating system software will be available as a free download to existing SMART customers at www.smarttech.com/support/software as of July 2004. Version 8.1.2 will ship with all SMART Board interactive whiteboards and Sympodium interactive lecterns.
SMART Board software is also available for the Windows, UNIX and Linux operating systems.
